MANHATTAN – Matt Percy battled the murk and mist of Colbert Hills Country Club to lead three Blue Dragons in the Top 10 as the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team finished third on Monday at Jayhawk No. 1, the first conference-designated tournament of the season.

The Blue Dragons shot consistent rounds of 304 and 305 to finish third at 609, just one stroke behind second-place Barton and 13 strokes behind tournament winner Dodge City, whose 299 helped the Conquistadors rally from a four-stroke deficit after the first round on Monday. The Conquistadors shot 596. Barton had 608.

Official scoring wasn't officially released until Tuesday.

Tied for eighth after the opening round on Monday, Percy jumped into the final Top 5 with a fourth-place showing at 5-over 149. Percy shot 76 in the first round and finished with a 1-over 73 in tough scoring conditions in the afternoon that included some intermittent showers later in the day.

Max Smith and Andrew Rios-Ceballos both finished in the Top 10 on Monday.

Smith shot 78 in the morning and cut four strokes in the afternoon round to finish in a five-way tie for eighth place at 152. Rios-Ceballos had back-to-back rounds of 76 to also finish at 152.

Doug Rios-Celballos shot 74 was one of six players tied for the lead after 18 holes on Monday at 74. He struggled in the afternoon round and finished tied for 25 at 158 after an 84 in the second round. Cole Gritton tied for 33rd at 163 after rounds of 81 and 82.

Lake Leroux, an individual Blue Dragon player, tied for 30th on Monday at 162 (83-79).

The Blue Dragons will next compete at the Jayhawk No. 2 on April 9 at Terradyne Country Club in Wichita.
