DRAGONS SHOOT BEST ROUND OF FALL TO CLOSE NATIONAL PREVIEW

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Hutchinson Community College men's golf team save its best for last with three players shooting under par and the Blue Dragons shooting a season-low round to finish out the NJCAA National Preview on Tuesday at The Rawls Course, site of the 2018 NJCAA Division I Men's National Tournament.

The Nos. 6/6 Blue Dragons shot 289 in the final round on Tuesday and finished eighth in the 15-team field with a 54-hole total of 883. The Dragons had team rounds of 293 and 301 on Monday. Hutchinson finished 33 strokes off the winning pace of McLennan College, which shot 287 on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons had three players shoot under par for the first time since the final round of the Dr. Pepper Classic at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco, Texas when Dominic Lara, Dax Shaw and Alex Schremmer all shot 71s.

On Tuesday, Douglas Rios-Ceballos shot his second 69 of the tournament, Andrew Rios-Ceballos carded his second 71 in Lubbock and Cole Gritton fired a 71.

Matt Percy and Joseph O'Neill both shot 78s on Tuesday and individual player Max Smith carded an 82.

Of the 18 scored rounds by Blue Dragon golfers at the NJCAA National Preview, the Blue Dragons had six rounds under par and one even-par round.

Douglas Rios-Ceballos as the top Blue Dragon finisher in the individual race. He finished tied for 15th place at 1-over 217. He sandwiched a second-round 79 on Monday between two 69s.

Andrew Rios-Ceballos tied for 23rd at 3-over 219. He had Monday rounds of 71 and 77.

Gritton made steady improvement throughout the preview. He opened with a 77, the shot 74 on Monday and closed with his first under-par round of the season to finish tied for 30th at 6-over 222.

Smith tied for 58th at 228. Percy tied for 67th at 231 and O'Neill tied for 69th at 232.

The Blue Dragons will next compete at the Missouri Southern Invitational at Sangri La Country Club in Monkey Island, Oklahoma next Monday and Tuesday.
