LUBBOCK, Texas – There were plenty of highs (low scores) and lows (high scores) for the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team in the first two rounds on Monday of the NJCAA National Preview.

The Nos. 6/6-ranked Blue Dragons carded four rounds of even par or below par, but shot eight strokes higher in the second round than the first of Monday at The Rawls Course, site of the 2018 NJCAA Division I men's championships next May.

The Blue Dragons are tied for ninth after 36 holes in the 54-hole tournament. The Dragons got off to a great start with a 293 team score, but shot 301 in the afternoon to finish the day at 594. Hutchinson trails team leader McLennan College by 33 strokes.

Hutch trails Dodge City, 13 strokes. The Conquistadors are at 581.

Individual player Max Smith is the top Blue Dragon through 36 holes. Smith is tied for 24th after two rounds at 146. Smith opened with a 3-over 75, but shaved four strokes off the afternoon round with a 1-under 71.

Brothers Andrew and Douglas Rios-Ceballos lead the players whose scores count for the team total. Both Rios-Ceballos' are tied for 31st at 148. Douglas had a season-best 3-under 69 to opening things for the Blue Dragons. But he faltered to a 79 in the afternoon round.

Andrew opened with a 71 and closed with a 77.

Sophomore Cole Gritton finds himself tied for 52nd at 151 after rounds of 77 and 74.

Sophomore Matt Percy shaved nine strokes off his first round, shooting even-par 72 in the afternoon after an opening-round 81. Percy is tied for 60th with a two-round total of 153.

Freshman Joseph O'Neill is tied for 64th after rounds of 76 and 78 to close at 154.

The final round is Tuesday morning.
