Koehling was working with the linebackers at Ohio during the 2013 season when the Bobcats played in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla. During his first year working with the Ohio defense in 2012, the Bobcats ended the season by winning the Independence Bowl against the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Prior to the 2012 season, he assisted the football team at Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky, working primarily with the freshman offensive line.
