Steve Kappenman is in his 12th year as Assistant Athletic Director at Hutchinson Community College.

Kappenman specializes in Eligibility, Compliance, Concessions, Game Operations and Fundraising for the Blue Dragon Athletic Department.

Since Kappenman’s arrival, the Blue Dragons have won four NJCAA National Championships – 2017 men’s basketball, 2021 and 2022 Men’s Golf and 2020-21 Football and the 2022 Blue Dragon football team was the NJCAA national runner-up.

A Hutchinson native, Kappenman better known as “Kapp” is a 2007 HutchCC graduate. He was awarded the Neil and Ardith Thompson Memorial Scholarship and worked as a student statistician for the Blue Dragon Sports Information Department while attending Hutchinson Community College.

Kappenman was recognized as the 2007 Young Kansan Award Winner as a sophomore at HutchCC, which is awarded to one outstanding male and female graduate.

Kappenman continued his education at the University of Kansas graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a business minor. He earned his master’s degree in Health, Human Performance and Recreation from Pittsburg State University in 2018.

Kappenman was a student intern with Major League Soccer’s Kansas City Wizards (now known as Sporting Kansas City) in the spring of 2009 working primarily in Game Operations.

Kappenman is married to the former Morgan Fox, who is an elementary school teacher in the Hutchinson public school system. Kappenman has three sons, Lucas (10), Landry (6) and Lawson (1).
