Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Quarterback Club Hall of Fame has been announced and it has a little something for most everybody.
The Class of 2023 has five individuals and one team to be inducted on Saturday, February 18 at halftime of the Hutchinson-Northwest Tech game at the Sports Arena.
The individual inductees are track and field athlete Skylar Arneson (2012-13), softball player Jessica Glenn (2008-09), football player Terrell Lane (2011-12), volleyball player Teresa Wade (2012-13) and baseball player Shawn Lewick (2009-10).
The 1994 NJCAA National Champion Blue Dragon men's basketball team will also be inducted with the Class of 2023.
SKYLAR ARNESON (Track and Field - 2012-13)
A Nickerson High School graduate, Arneson was an NJCAA Hammer Throw National Champion in the 2013 NJCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championship at Gowans Stadium.
Arneson was a two-time first-team All-American with an outdoor shot put runner-up finish in 2012. Arneson was an eight-team NJCAA-American – four outdoor, four indoor.
He finished as second-team indoor All-American in the weight throw (3rd place in 2012; 4th place in 2013). He was third and eighth in the indoor shot put.
Outdoor, Arneson was first in the 2013 hammer throw, 2nd and 3rd in the shot put and eighth in the discus.
Arneson continues to be the Hutchinson CC record holder in the Hammer Throw at 198-8.
JESSICA GLENN (Softball - 2008-09)
Glenn was a freshman All-American outfielder in 2008, the program's first All-American since 1992.
She will be the first Blue Dragon softball player enshrined into the Quarterback Club Hall of Fame.
A 5-foot-7 outfielder from Overland Park, Glenn had an exceptional freshman season for the Blue Dragons, helping the team win 40 games for the second time in program history. Glenn broke six single-season team records, including batting average (.453), total hits (96), runs scored (56) and total bases (119). She ranked in the top 6 of 14 different offensive single-season categories in 2008.
Glenn was named first-team All-Jayhawk East and second-team All-Region VI in her sophomore year of 2009. This is the second-straight year that Glenn earned postseason recognition.
Glenn finished the 2009 season second on the team in hitting at .377 with her first three career home runs and a team-high 42 RBIs. Glenn tied for the team lead in hits with 66 and was second in runs scored with 52. She led the team in stolen bases, going 18 for 19. Glenn had an on-base percentage of .412 and a team-high slugging percentage of .554.
TERRELL LANE (Football - 2011-12)
Lane was huge for the Blue Dragons in his sophomore season and earned second-team NJCAA All-America honors as well as all-league and region first-team awards.
Lane not only broke one, but two major rushing record during his sophomore season, which he still holds today.
Lane had nine-straight 100-yard rushing games and three 200-yard rushing games. Lane broke HutchCC's 46-year-old single-game rushing record of Mack Herron's when he rushed for 308 yards on just 29 carries in a 63-49 victory over the Broncbusters. The game vaulted him into the national rushing lead for the remainder of the regular season.
Lane wound up second in the nation with a Blue Dragon single-season record 1,632 yards. Lane completed his Blue Dragon career as the fourth-leading rusher all-time with 2,093 yards. Lane scored 28 total touchdowns this season (15 rushing, 3 receiving) and scored 108 points, which ranks third best in single-season HCC history. For his career, Lane had 27 total touchdowns for 162 points, which also ranks third. Lane also caught 24 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns this season. He completed 4 of 6 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.
As a punter, Lane averaged 41.2 yards per attempt on 33 punts with a career best of 62 yards.
SHAWN LEWICK (Baseball - 2009-10)
If there was ever a case where a single Blue Dragon athlete put his team on his back and carried them in the postseason, it was Lewick.
The Andale High School left-handed pitcher was the staff ace of the 2010 Blue Dragon baseball team that won the Region VI Tournament and finished third in the NJCAA World Series.
In Hutchinson's sub-regional game against Johnson County, Lewick got the with, throwing 147 pitches. He followed that up with 133 pitches in a win over Cowley in the Central District Winner's Bracket final at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, a game the Blue Dragons ultimately won 4-3 in 13 innings.
Lewick was 8-2 in his sophomore season of 2010 with 95 strikeouts in 86.2 innings. He had two huge postseason wins in the sub-regional, one in the regional and one in the NJCAA World Series.
Lewick was an honorable mention All-American in 2010. Lewick had three shutouts as a sophomore, which ties for No. 1 in single-season history.
His 95 strikeouts in 2010 are second most still in team history. His 132 strikeouts are fifth in Blue Dragon career history.
TERESA WADE (Volleyball - 2012-13)
The St. John product was a two-time NJCAA second-team All-American and two-time Jayhawk West Most Valuable Player who led the Blue Dragon Volleyball team to back-to-back Jayhawk West and Region VI Championships in 2012 and 2013.
Wade is the only two-time conference Player of the Year in program history.
Wade remains second in career kills (896), sixth in kills per set (3.25) and 13th in career digs (749).
1994 BLUE DRAGON MEN'S BASKETBALL
After six long years, the NJCAA national championship trophy returned to Hutchinson in 1994.
Hutchinson Community College took the lead for good late in the first half and held off a frantic Three Rivers, Mo., comeback for a 78-74 victory in the 1994 NJCAA Tournament championship game at the Sports Arena.
Ben Davis had 20 points, including two decisive free throws with 4.1 seconds left, to lead the Blue Dragons, who finished the season with a 35-4 record, the second-most wins in school history.
Roy "Pooh" Hairston added 18 points, while John Sweet had 13 and Craig Duerksen had 12 points for Hutchinson.
Steve McClain, who won a national title as an assistant coach in 1988, had his own championship as a head coach and was named the Coach of the Tournament
Hairston was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player. He finished second in tournament scoring with 72 points. Hairston and Davis, who was ninth in scoring with 66 points, were named to the 12-member all-tournament team. Lucas Wagler earned the Charles Sesher Sportsmanship Award.
